YOUR ANTICIPATION: SARA & HECTOR

I had the wonderful opportunity to work with my friends Sara and Hector yesterday evening. You may remember that I shot some “day after” images for them a year ago. When I found out they were expecting, I was SO excited. They are a beautiful couple who love each other immensely, they love their family and friends, and they love the Lord. And NOW they’ve got a little bun in the oven who has taken over their hearts already! This little man is SO LOVED.

I loved the fact that early into her pregnancy, Sara shot me an email reserving the right to hire me down the road for their next set of images. They live in Orange and saw some of my previous maternity shots from the Circle/Plaza, so we decided to head back there. It was a hot afternoon, but Sara and Hector were cool cats. They laughed and smiled, joked around, and celebrated the fact that little Micah is on his way!

Sara and Hector, I am honored by your friendship and touched that you had me shoot these special images once again! I can’t wait to meet the new addition to your family! XOXO!

MY JOURNEY: PHOTO CAKES

This weekend, I attended the first birthday of a very special client. I took his parents’ maternity shots, his hospital arrival shots, newborn shots, and their family Christmas photos. He’s also the son of one of my dearest friends!

When I arrived at the party, Clare told me that she’d used one of our favorite shots on the cake! What a joy it is to have my photography loved by others and to continue to be used as time passes on!

YOUR BLESSING: GRAYDEN, PART II

Earlier this month, I introduced you to baby Grayden, the son of my childhood best friend. Steven and Lisa are beautiful people who I’ve enjoyed photographing in the past, so it was inevitable that they’d have a photogenic baby who would be a gem to work with!

Now, I’m not a newborn photographer. I have talented friends and colleagues who are drawn to working with babies; they are clever and creative and know how to lull babies into the perfect sleep and positions…like the pied piper of newborns. Not having children yet, myself, I find that working with newborns is intimidating…I worry if I’ll break them. Having said that, I’ve photographed many of my closest friends’ babies and all has gone well. This baby, however, was the pièce de résistance.

Grayden slept or coo’d sweetly for about four straight hours. He had two diaper situations, but neither caused any disruptions. He ate, snuggled, and let me move him about without any fuss. When I have children, I’d like to order one up just like him!!!

He is beautiful, but his temperament is so chill. He’s already his mommy and daddy’s perfect little angel and I can’t wait to watch him grow up. Steven and Lisa will be his perfect parents and I know he’ll grow up surrounded by love!

YOUR BLESSING: GRAYDEN

Well, maternity season is officially coming to an end for me. Why do you ask? Because the first of my clients gave birth last week! Remember the gorgeous Lisa and Steven? Well, baby Grayden made his debut on April 22nd…large and in charge, he came in style and called me up for his first portraits.

I’ve known Lisa since she came to my 5th birthday party. Our moms and dads are the closest of friends, too. They’re like a part of my family. Watching Lisa get married, and then a few years later become a mom, has been so fun and somewhat surreal. But as I watched her with her beautiful son, I saw a sereneness about her that I’ve never seen before…it was like all was right with the world. And Steven was already a helpful and hands on dad and I just know they’re going to have a blast raising this beautiful little boy.

Lisa, Steven, and Grayden, I love you so much and am so proud of you and your new family. I pray that Grayden grows up to be the best at whatever he chooses and that he always knows how much he is loved!

YOUR ANTICIPATION: REBEKAH

Sometimes a woman just glows…and sometimes that woman is a friend you’ve had for years. As a photographer, I’m blessed to be able to share my passion with dear friends. It’s a blessing to be able to help memorialize their journey through life and last weekend was no different.

Rebekah is a friend I’ve known through church for a long time. Sadly, she now lives in Chicago, so I don’t get to see her often, but when she called and said she was expecting her first little one, I knew I’d get to see her again for a baby shower and (in my mind it was already set!) photos!

A Huntington Beach girl to the core, Rebekah knew exactly where here maternity pics should take place. We arranged to meet early before her shower and traipsed through HB. It was a joy to see her as a mommy-to-be and I know that she’ll welcome her son with love and excitement. Beks, I love ya to pieces and can’t wait to see you transition to parenthood!

Kenny, Bethany, and Cora met me one marathon Saturday. The shots turned out beautifully, which is a good thing because Bethany is like a little sister to me. I’ve known her since she was born and so seeing her as a mommy was a thrill. She and her fabulous husband have a beautiful baby daughter and I can’t wait to see what shots they chose to use for their Christmas card.

Bethany and Kenny, Cora is just GORGEOUS and I’m so proud of the family you’ve created. I can’t wait to see you over the holidays! XOXO, JJ

I’ve been up to my ears in Christmas card photos lately, not that I’m complaining! Even though it’s been hot as can be here in So Cal, I’ve edited all my shoots wearing Christmas socks, because darn it, I just feel like it!

One of my favorite families, the Venegas’ wanted something rustic for their photos and we found a great spot just around the corner from my house! I love it when that happens! Cedar Grove Park is lined by a grove of trees here in Tustin, which made a perfect backdrop! When you’re trying to determine locations, don’t assume there isn’t an option close by and around the corner, because there just may be!

Clare and Matt, you guys are gorgeous and I can’t wait to see how the cards turn out!!! Derek is a handsome lil devil and I know everyone will love your pics! XOXO

Now that little Maximilan is home from the hospital, I went over to visit his mommy and daddy and to snap a few photos for his birth announcement, etc. He’s a handsome little devil and I enjoyed watching the family at home in their environment.

Newborn photography is tricky. The best announcement photos are typically done in baby’s first 10 days. Why, you ask? Because they sleep so much! A sleeping baby is easier to maneuver, position, and pose. Having said that, a calm awake baby is precious, too! Enjoy little Max’s first week and let me know YOUR favorite…asleep or awake!

All day on Wednesday, I sat in a whirl of anxiety waiting to hear about Lori and Chris’ special delivery. Lori went into labor on Tuesday evening (Chris’ 40th birthday!) and all of our friends couldn’t wait to hear the good news. Sadly, Lori’s dreams of an all natural childbirth were squashed, but after almost 24 hours of labor and a c-section, their BEAUTIFUL little boy entered this world!

Less than 24 hours after the delivery, I headed down to Saddleback Memorial to meet the new little peanut and to document his first days. Chris and Lori had seen the hospital photos I took of Derek and wanted some, too. What a fun and great way to introduce your new addition to friends and family…through a quick and easy editorial-style photoshoot! As a photographer, it’s a joy to capture these brand new moments. As a friend, it’s INCREDIBLE to see two friends (who you introduced!!!) fall in love 1000% with their new baby!

Chris and Lori, I just love you to pieces and I couldn’t be more thrilled for you! Max is one beautiful little boy and I know he’ll grow up with an abundance of love, which will ultimately shape his character. Can’t wait to watch him grow and change over the new few days and weeks. I know you’ll do a tremendous job being his parents! XOXO!
