I love it when grandparents show off their newest loves. You can just see the pride and joy in their faces. The smile of a grandparent is like none other; there is a different kind of tenderness and deepness of emotion.

Photographing children can be challenging…especially little ones! But as a fan of lifestyle sessions, capturing even the funnier moments tells a story. I love the shot below of the Wades. I’ve known them since I was five years old and seeing them exchange this look while trying to rangle their grandbabies just makes me happy!

And I love this one, too. Cora was jealous that her baby sister got to be held in grandpa’s arms and she wanted in on the action, but baby Grayden didn’t want her going anywhere!

I’m also really proud of them for getting the whole family together. The last time they had their portrait taken was at Bethany and Kenny’s wedding (I think). Showing the family with the latest additions was something they made a priority, one that I totally agree with wholeheartedly. Custom portraiture is all about capturing moments…and one that will never go down as a regret. What are you waiting for?

This is Lisa. She’s my childhood best friend. She’s beautiful and has a great smile. She also has a handsome hubby and beautiful little boy. She’s living the life that our Barbie dolls had!

We met up this weekend at Oak Canyon Nature Center for their Christmas card photos. I LOVE the way the images turned out and am so blessed to have such beautiful and fun clients!

I love this shot almost as much as I love the last shot in this series!

YOUR JOY: LABRADO

I recently had the opportunity to photograph the Labrado family at Cedar Grove Park in Tustin. They are long time friends that I know through my public affairs/day job world and have given me the opportunity to photograph them for the second year in a row.

The thing I love most about this family is their laughter. They are kind people who just radiate joy and a love for life. I know their sweet little girl will grow up with the best of each of them and I hope she laughs just as much as they do!!!

This is what happens when you allow a 2 year old to select the poses. : ) Darling Maddie had us all in fits of laughter when she climbed on up and made a bed in her parents’ arms!

YOUR JOY: DAVIDSON FAMILY

One of the fun parts of being a part-time photographer is merging both of my professional worlds. I met the Davidsons a few years ago through my “day job.” Young political junkies have not always been common in this area, so it’s always wonderful to meet kindred spirits.

As the holidays have approached, I’m reconnecting with all sorts of friends. Being asked to photograph the families of colleagues and former associates is wonderful…I love that they trust me to capture them as they make memories.

Jennie and Michael, thanks for placing your trust in me. Sawyer is just the cutest little dude…I’m sure this holiday season will be incredibly fun and meaningful! Enjoy!

YOUR JOY: VENEGAS FAMILY

This Venegas family is not to be confused with this Venegas family; but they are related! Clare and Matt are some of my best friends and they surprised their brother and sister-in-law with a photo shoot for Christmas last year and we scheduled it just in time for their holiday photos. Marc and Penni are incredibly fun and their boys Ryan and Riley are adorable and have such fun and distinct personalities!

We began the shoot at Peters Canyon in Tustin and then finished the shoot at Cedar Grove Park. It was a fantastic day, but I did manage to get a parking ticket…which reminds me that I DO need to get that paid. : )

Gift certificates are a great idea for the holidays. If you’re stumped on what to get for your loved ones this year, consider giving them the gift of memories!!!

YOUR JOY: SCHNAIDER

It’s hard to believe that it’s September. (Where did the summer go? Did we really ever have one here in So Cal?) But it’s even harder to believe that I just had my first family shoot for Christmas cards, too! It may seem early, but in actuality, it’s not. Pretty soon, we’ll all get busier and busier and suddenly, you’ll start scrambling to get your family photos done! Be sure to CONTACT ME soon to schedule your Christmas session before it’s too late!

Chris and Lori are long-time clients and dear friends of mine. I shot their maternity pics, visited them in the hospital shortly after Max was born, and also did a shoot at home a couple weeks later. Now that Max is 1, he’s running around like crazy, loves to play with his mom, dad, and buddy Derek, and has the cutest curly blond hair ever. He’s also incredibly well-behaved and super smiley.

On Monday morning, we had some gloomy and overcast skies, which makes shooting a snap. It was also a great day, because the Schnaider’s were a lot of fun to be with!

This could be my new favorite image from a family shoot! That face is showing total joy!!!Since he was born, Max has had a photo taken every month with this glove. At first, he had no interest in it, but then we got him laughing, which led to some great shots!While we were out shooting, Lori mentioned that she didn’t have a current head shot for work, so she through on some pearls and a suit jacket and I was able to snap this one, which I think is just great! YOUR JOY: GAST

Last month, I was contacted by Jill to take some family photos. She had been referred to me and we had never met prior to our shoot, so I had no way of knowing how stinking adorable her little girl would be or that she and her sisters all have such incredible smiles!

We met at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point. It was a beautiful afternoon and I enjoyed seeing this family interact with one another. The inside jokes, immediate laughter, and razzing reminded me of MY family. This is just how a family session should be!

I caught this shot of Dave and Janet flirting with one another…I hope that I can have that same feistiness with my hubby after years of marriage! Okay, Presley is just a total doll. I wanted to keep her! It was so fun to shoot down at the Ocean Institute. There were a ton of great sights to see, including the tall ships! See what I mean?! Presley made a funny face at her parents and we all started laughing, so she kept doing it. She’s 2 1/2, but seemed like a star to me already! SISTERS! The beautiful Gast sisters. Three generations! I told them to laugh and they instantly started busting up. I love inside jokes and family idiosyncrasies!

YOUR JOY: JACOB

I recently had the pleasure of photographing the Baez family. Jacob just turned four and it was time to get some updated family photos.

We met at Irvine Regional Park on the first nice Saturday of the season, with Spring just around the corner, we weren’t the only ones with the idea of spending some time outdoors. The park was full of families, enjoying their time together, and after our shoot, the Baez’s were off to ride the train.
