I got a call from Geoff’s wife, Genevieve, asking if I was available to take some headshots of her hubby. The good doctor will soon be applying for fellowships as his residency comes to an end and most applications require a photo. We made an appointment and I met them at their home on a recent Saturday morning after he’d worked all night.

Now Geoff is easily one of the smartest people I know. I always enjoy chatting with him about the medical field, politics, and religion. We can talk and talk and talk for hours. The dude is also incredibly funny, as evidenced by his attire when I showed up for the session.

Geoff was wearing a button down, tie, and suit jacked…with basketball shorts. I still laugh at the outfit. I LOVE that my clients are always friends, and often unpredictable!

One of my favorite verses in the Bible comes from Song of Solomon and states, “For I have found the one whom my soul loves.” My wonderful parents are soul mates and met as high schoolers; he was a football player and she was a song leader. I wonder if at 17 years old they could have imagined their life would turn out this way. As a 34-year old, I can’t imagine a love story beginning like theirs, but I am so thankful it did.

Mom and Dad, I love you more than I can say. You are a beautiful example of a successful marriage and of Christ’s love for the Church. Thank you for your selfless love and for allowing room in your hearts for the three of us (and now Dan’s family, too)!

I snapped this sweet shot on Christmas Eve after everyone had gone home and while my sister and I were doing dishes.

After the week these two have had, they deserved some time on the couch with their favorite daughter…who incidentally is blind and has four legs.

There’s only two more days left in December, which means I’ve just about kicked this December Daily Challenge in the butt! Thanks for coming along on the journey with me!

They also happen to be my grandparents!

Last month, I secretly arranged a date with them and shot some portraits for about 20 minutes, then had dinner with them in the dinning room of their assisted living facility. It was a blast to spend time with them on my own and catch up on life. They are encouragers with HUGE hearts and I look at their marriage and am in awe of the way they care for one another and still love each other. They are an example for us all.

On Christmas Eve, our family gets together and exchanges gifts. We allow stealing and for adults to bring anything they think a cousin or aunt/uncle might enjoy. The numbers are drawn and the fun begins.

I knew this year that I was going to put a photograph of the world’s coolest grandparents into the exchange and that everyone would love it. For the cousins and aunts/uncles who were there, I handed out an assortment of shots afterwards and will be sending the ones who celebrated afar this week, too. I’ve loved this shoot for so many reasons and couldn’t wait to blog it. Now that Christmas is over, I’m proud to share with you my wonderful and loving Grandma and Grandpa.

He is witty, goofy, strong, and has a huge heart. He is a hard worker who also knows how to have fun. When you’re in a bind, this is the guy to call. When you need reassurance, this is the guy to call. When you want to go watch sprint car races, this is the guy to call. ; )

He’s my hero and I want to be more caring, more selfless, and more helpful…just like him.

I’ve known Tira for a couple of years now and she’s always been a huge encouragement to me. She’s a talented family photographer who always seems to capture fun moments! We’ve bonded over our love for wine and Jesus and we always seem to have new scoop or tips for one another. We could talk (or shop) for hours on end and this weekend was no different. We shot for a couple of hours in an awesome part of Southern CA that I never knew about and even shot through the rain! Later, we sat at the computer for hours. I can’t remember when I’ve enjoyed myself more at a dinner!

Tira and David, thanks so much for your friendship and for a really fun afternoon. Your laughter is infectious and I appreciate the fact that you didn’t hold it against me when I called you dorks. ; ) XOXO!

Looking through the images I snapped, I had to laugh because almost one year ago exactly, Tira and I both attended to the Gray Photography workshop where we took nearly identical photos like the one below!

Later this week, I’ll do a full blog post of images that I love, but in the meantime, I wanted to share an image that just screams Tira to me. This girl has such an awesome personality and a ready laugh. She’s so much fun to be with and I think you can tell from the shot below!

We met up in the Fort Worth Water Gardens and shot for a while and caught up on life. I really enjoyed reconnecting and seeing her through my lens all these years later.

Ryan has great style, is an advertising professional with a sharp wit and genuine nature. And I truly think it’s inspired that she chose to update her parent’s arsenal of photos. Ladies and gentlemen, sometimes you just need to update those family photos and not wait for a special occasion. I promise you that your family and friends will absolutely love them!

Not long after that, we started meeting up and sitting together at SmugMug meetings and commenting on each other’s blog posts. We kept up through Facebook and when she moved back to her beloved South, I knew that she’s be so happy! And watching her blog, her work, and her FB updates, I could tell that she was.

I was out of town all last week, and today learned of Gina’s sudden passing. I’m terribly sad, in total shock, and yes, confused. But I know that she’s in Heaven where there’s no pain, hurt, or sadness. I hate the phrase “rest in peace” because for those who believe in Heaven, it’s a rest in JOY! So Gina, thanks for being my friend, if just for a short while. Rest in JOY, my friend! And to her family and close friends, my prayers are with you…

Here’s a few old favorites from that first day we met…

For instance, below you’ll find a high gloss image mounted on a 5/8 inch thick piece of MDF. The print is crystal clear and the glossy finish is gorgeous!As you can see, the mounting is seamless and it’s a solid piece that requires no framing.
Another really fun option is metal print. The print is thin and funky, with a little edge to it. I have mine mounted on an acrylic block. It can also be mounted on an acrylic frame, but I prefer the block as it appears much more unique and urban!Lastly, I have the GREATEST canvas vendor EVER. Their products are timeless and UV coated to truly last for generations to come!
