MY JOURNEY.IN THE PRESENCE OF A LEGEND.

Today was a special day; I had the fortune of attending the Governor and First Lady’s Conference on Women in Long Beach along with 30,000 other women.  Once again, the event was sold out and boasted an AMAZING schedule of speakers!

The morning began with the Governor, Richard Branson, and others – it was inspiring and intense.  Because I’ve been so focused on the guests we (work) entertained at the conference, I’d completely forgotten which breakout sessions I’d registered for.  Imagine my surprise when I show up for my morning breakout and realize that my session is Katie Couric interviewing Annie Leibovitz!

Aside from hearing Annie talk about her life, show some of her gorgeous imagery, explain the photos chosen for her book “A Photographer’s Life”, and share about her current financial issues, I was pleasantly surprised to hear her talk about the technical side of her photography!  She shared about how she really began her career shooting black and white because color film scared her as she had issues nailing exposure and light.  (Interesting to hear that she started out the same way as the rest of us!)  She says that yes, since the advent of digital, shooting color has become much easier, but for the most part, her style was already set.  She began shooting as a child because her mother always had a camera in her hands and she wanted to be like her.  She also said that her family moved quite often, and she was always seeing new towns and locations through the car window…therefore being the first “frame” she ever saw through.  It was incredibly interesting!!!

I love that today my day job coincided with my passion job.  What an awe-some experience to be in the presence of a legend!
